About CLOUDES

CLOUDES’ goal is to make simulations available to anyone. We chose discrete-event simulations because they are the simplest to create as they relate to observable and measurable systems. These systems are found in your closest movie theater, fast food restaurant, emergency room, bank, grocery store and at home, especially during large gatherings.

CLOUDES’ basic requirements were: accessible to mobile devices and ease of use. The impact of mobile devices in our daily lives is large. This would allow users to have access to this tool at any given time. Ease of use was paramount. Simulations tools are usually created by experts for experts. We wanted to be one of the few tools built by experts with non-experts in mind.

CLOUDES is a VMASC/ODU initiative to support STEM education and M&S entrepreneurship like the M&S Cube before it. The Cube provides a light repository of information about modeling and simulation. You can download the apps here:

VMASC

The Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center is one of the world’s leading research centers for computer modeling, simulation, and visualization. The mission of the Center is to conduct collaborative MS&V research and development, provide expertise to government agencies and industry, and to promote Old Dominion University, Hampton Roads and Virginia as a center of MS&V activities. Working with more than one hundred industry, government, and academic members, VMASC furthers the development and applications of modeling, simulation and visualization as enterprise decision-making tools to promote economic, business, and academic development. Annually, the Center conducts approximately $10M in funded research.

ODU

Old Dominion University is a state-assisted institution and one of only four Virginia schools in the Carnegie Research Universities (high research activity) category. The University offers a complete range of Modeling & Simulation degree options from Bachelor’s to Ph.D.

Hampton Roads

The Hampton Roads region is home to a thriving modeling and simulation community. Small and large companies coalesce in the area driven by space exploration, defense and healthcare initiatives, among others. The economic value of MS&V-related business activity in Hampton Roads is estimated to be over $500M.
